- Pipelines conveying slurry medium with conveying distance ≥ 50 km and nominal diameter DN ≥ 150 mm.
GB1 applies to gas pipelines.

Pigging, Line Swabbing, and Pressure Testing for New Pipelines
Pigging and swabbing are critical steps in long-distance pipeline construction. The process involves using compressed air to propel cleaning pigs through the pipeline, effectively removing debris such as soil, welding slag, and other contaminants.

Environmentally Safe Disposal of Decommissioned Pipelines (Cleaning & Grout Sealing)
Although decommissioned pipelines remain buried underground, years of corrosion and third-party construction activities may compromise their integrity. Without proper treatment, residual oil/gas in these pipelines can pose secondary hazards. While complete excavation removal is the optimal disposal method, most abandoned pipelines are located in high-risk areas—either beneath roads/buildings with complex permitting requirements or near environmentally sensitive zones like coastal shallows—making full removal impractical.
The environmentally safe disposal process consists of two phases:
- Pipeline Cleaning (method selection based on residual content):
- Physical cleaning: Pigging (PIG)
- Chemical cleaning: Solvent flushing
- Thermal cleaning: Steam purging
- Pipeline Sealing:
- Nitrogen purging
- Grout injection sealing (primary method)
Pipeline pigs are specialized devices propelled by gases, liquids, or the pipeline’s own medium to perform cleaning operations. They can also carry auxiliary tools to complete complex pipeline maintenance tasks.
During construction, pipelines inevitably accumulate debris (water, soil, sand, stones, welding slag, etc.). In operation, built-up condensates and corrosion products degrade gas quality, reduce throughput (while increasing pressure differentials and energy consumption), clog instrumentation, impair measurement accuracy, and accelerate internal corrosion.
