| Client: | Jiangsu Provincial Transportation Department (Hypothetical for narrative) |
| Project Name: | 121 Provincial Road Expansion & Natural Gas Pipeline Relocation Project |
| Location: | Sihong County, Suqian City, Jiangsu Province, China |
| Core Challenge: | Relocating a live high-pressure natural gas pipeline crossing a road expansion zone without shutdown, eliminating safety risks and massive economic losses. |
| Our Solution: | A customized non-stop pipeline relocation plan utilizing Hot Tapping and Double Block & Bleed (Stoppling) technology, combined with new high-pressure pipeline installation. |
| Key Results: | 100% safety record; 0 production interruptions; Completed within the 40-day deadline; Seamless execution with full regulatory compliance. |
Our Solution: A Precision Engineered, Non-Stop Pipeline Relocation Plan
As a specialist in high-pressure pipeline installation and maintenance, we presented a custom-engineered solution centered on the proven technology of Hot Tapping and Stoppling. This method is the gold standard for live-line modifications, but its application on a 6.4MPa line demands unparalleled expertise.
Our solution was a two-part master plan:
1. Precision New Pipeline Installation:
We first installed the new 200-meter, DN500 diversion route using high-grade L415M SAWH (Submerged Arc Welded Helical) steel pipe, designed to match the existing system’s pressure rating. Every weld was executed and inspected to the highest industrial pipeline construction standards, ensuring long-term integrity.
2. The Critical Tie-In: Hot Tapping & Double Block and Bleed:
This was the core of our pipeline relocation services. We performed two Double Block and Bleed operations on the live mainline. Here’s how this complex process works and why it’s so effective:
- Step 1: Hot Tapping. Using a specialized drilling machine, we safely cut into the live, pressurized pipeline to create a connection point. This is done without any product loss.
- Step 2: Stoppling (Double Block & Bleed). We inserted sealing heads through the hot tap fittings to isolate the specific pipeline section scheduled for relocation. The “Double Block and Bleed” provides two independent seals, with the cavity between them safely vented (bled), creating a secure isolated zone.
-
Step 3: Tie-In & Reversal. With the section safely isolated, we cut out the old pipe and welded in the new bypass section. Once secured and tested, the sealing heads were removed, and flow was restored through the new route.
The Tangible Benefit for the Client: This entire process was conducted while the pipeline remained in full operation. The client experienced zero disruption to their gas supply, translating directly to zero financial loss and uncompromised operational stability.
The Challenge: A High-Stakes Intersection of Infrastructure and Energy
Imagine this: a vital provincial road, 121 Provincial Road, requires expansion to boost regional economic growth. Directly in its path lies an active, high-pressure natural gas pipeline. Shutting it down for pipeline crossing construction was not an option. A shutdown would mean:
- Massive Economic Loss: Disrupting the energy supply to industrial and residential consumers, resulting in significant financial penalties.
- Operational Nightmare: Requiring complex, costly, and time-consuming procedures to purge, inert, and recommission the entire pipeline section.
- Unacceptable Safety Risks: Any shutdown and subsequent restart of a high-pressure line introduces additional procedural risks.
The client needed a pipeline contractor capable of executing a flawless pipeline relocation without a single minute of downtime. The mandate was clear: zero interruptions, 100% safety.
The Client’s Unspoken Question: *”Can you guarantee that your ‘non-stop’ method is truly safe and reliable for our 6.4MPa pipeline, and will you deliver on time without any surprises?”*
Results & Lasting Impact: Quantifiable Success for Our Client
The project was not just completed; it was a resounding success on every metric that matters to a project owner.
- Zero Incidents: A perfect 100% safety record was achieved, with no accidents or environmental mishaps.
- Zero Downtime: The client’s natural gas transmission continued uninterrupted, avoiding potential economic losses estimated in the millions of RMB.
- On-Time Delivery: All work was completed within the strict 40-day deadline, preventing delays to the overarching road expansion project.
- Long-Term Integrity: The new pipeline section was installed and tested to exceed original design specifications, ensuring decades of safe and reliable service.
Client Testimonial
“The complexity of this pipeline relocation was immense. The team’s mastery of hot tapping and stopping technology gave us the confidence to proceed. They delivered exactly what they promised: a safe, on-schedule project with no impact on our operations. They have set a new benchmark for what an oil and gas pipeline contractor should be.”
